About the Project

The Solve Learning Loss Project is a multifaceted public service project in education of Thames International and University of San Carlos conceptualized in response to the prevalent and most urgent occurrence of learning loss across the country due to the Covid 19 Pandemic of 2020. This is assessment-based and curriculum-based and involves delivery of instruction in various modalities.

It has three components:

• The Philippine Assessment for Learning Solutions (PALS)
• The Catch-Up Program and,
• The Tutor Training Program.

Introduction to PALS

The Philippine Assessment for Learning Solutions or PALS is an online academic assessment tool crafted by the University of San Carlos to measure the extent of learning loss in the country brought about by school closures due to the 2020 Covid 19 pandemic.

The tool covers assessment in the following areas:

• Reading,
• Mathematics and
• Science and spans Grades 1-12.

Each test has been based on the Most Essential Learning Competencies or MELCs as drawn from the Curriculum Guides of May 2016, the last iteration before 2020. Each test is 20 items each designed to be taken within one hour.

The Learning Loss Consortium of Schools

In the spirit of unity in the face of learning loss in the country, Thames International and University of San Carlos are joined by a host of private and public schools in pursuing this endeavor.
