Compliments go a long way when it comes to both making a lady feel good and building a positive relationship between the two of you. However, it’s important to use the right words to express how you feel.

Words like “beautiful,” “cute,” “pretty,” and “sexy” might be common ways to compliment a woman, but they tend to be overused.

If you’re vying for the attention of a woman you like, it’s time to step up your game and compliment her in a way that’s really going to catch her attention.

1. Gorgeous

Instead of telling her she’s pretty, tell her she’s gorgeous. Gorgeous is by far a more powerful and less common compliment than the usual beautiful or sexy. It implies that she’s so incredible that you just had to come up with a more gripping word to describe her.

2. Stylish

Telling a woman that she’s stylish accomplishes two things: first, you’re saying that she looks wonderful; and second, you’re saying that she has impeccable taste. It’s a two-in-one compliment that pays attention to both her looks and the way she carries herself.

3. Refreshing

This might seem more like an adjective you’d use to describe a tall drink, but that’s something you can compare a lady to. Telling her that her presence is refreshing implies that you’re more at ease when she’s around. It’s like saying that simply having her near you is enough to make you forget the chaos going on around you.

4. Witty

As with stylish, telling a woman that she’s witty accomplishes two things: it lets her know that you appreciate her intelligence, while at the same time it also tells her that her humor is in line with yours.

5. Disarming

In the movie Closer, Jude Law’s character describes Natalie Portman’s character as disarming. Telling a woman she’s disarming implies that she so enchantingly charming that you’re willing to put down your defenses for her. If that doesn’t work, we don’t know what will!

When giving compliments make sure you always mean it. Being caught giving an insincere compliment is worse than not giving her compliments at all! So before you casually slip these words into a conversation with a girl you like, make sure you understand their meaning and that you really mean them!
